✈ Janice + Chris = lovers of each other and travel ✈ - Boston Engagement Photographer

I am so excited to share this shoot with you today! This duo, Janice and Chris are the most fun people I’ve ever worked with. This is the couple who has hired me to shoot their destination wedding in Bagne De Lucca this May.

Since they both love to travel and I am usually a “go big or go home” kind of person, I had arranged for us to shoot at a small airfield in Norwood, MA for a portion of the day. I have a lot of people to thank for helping me make this happen. I knew that I wanted to try to get a prop plane for the shoot, but how? TSA people are jerks most of the time and I knew that if I just called the airport, it wouldn’t work out. I called on to my friend Nathan, who is in the Air Force and asked him, “what do you think the odds are of me finding a plane for a photo shoot?”. With no hesitation he replied, “Just call a flight school, they are so proud of their aircraft that I can bet you they will 100% say yes.” That is what I did! Actually, I emailed the people over at Horizon Aviation basically a novel about who I was and why I wanted to use a prop plane for a photo shoot and being really nice. I got a reply in about 10 minutes from Chris, who apparently specializes in flying upside down, with an “absolutely!” response. No way! Ok, so he said yes, now it’s time for the scheduling nightmare with my couple! Janice and Chris were completely open and willing to work it into their day and so was Horizon, double no way! – Thank you Nathan, Thank you Chris P, Thank you Janice and Chris.

Enough story, on to the images!

Here are a select few from the airfield:

After we were done playing in the airfield we went to the couple’s apartment where we were able to incorporate a few objects that are special to them. Along with that, we did a little story board that illustrates how they met, fell in love, all of that beautiful stuff.

I am so so excited and honored to me shooting their wedding in May!

Sorry I haven’t posted in a couple of weeks! I have been working on a couple of wicked awesome projects that will surely bring some exciting new posts. I can’t wait for you to see!

Meanwhile, here are a few photos from a recent shoot on the esplanade that I love.

I love trees. If I am in a hurry and sprinting to make it somewhere on time and I happen to pass an cool gnarled tree, I will most likely stop to gaze at it.

Thank you so much for checking out my images. If you like me, you should tell me so in a comment. If you hate me, you should also tell me in a comment! I love to hear from my readers, it makes my day!

In the next few weeks expect to see an insane photo shoot involving fire and the setting of things on it =) Doesn’t that sound fun? I am also going to have a giveaway, but the details of that are a secret right now! I am going somewhere fantastic to shoot my first destination wedding in just a few months, and I am so excited about it! I can’t wait to share the details of that, either!

Until then, enjoy these pretty people and trees!

family time!

It’s been a while since I’ve had a free weekend with no photo shoots and decided to take it easy, it is *freezing* here after all! We have dog walkers who take Emma to “the fells” every mon/weds/fri and when we asked where it is that they go, the directions seemed so simple yet we would always get lost. The place we would end up stopping was beautiful for sure, but we never saw other dogs around. After reading the boston dog blog Fidoloves.com that had a specific map with directions to the spot where people take their dogs, we headed out! There were so many dogs and Emma had a freakin’ blast! Isn’t she the cutest?!

South Shore Holiday Portrait Session :: Boston Family Portrait Photographer

Today on the blog I have for you two adorable parents and their equally adorable twins! Meet Eva and David, a 1 year old brother/sister combo and their parents, Julie and Charley, of the South Shore of MA. We were going to have a mostly outdoor shoot in front of their beautiful new house but it was about zero degrees out. Luckily though, Eva and David have matching Irish sweaters/hats and we managed to get outside for a couple snaps. I played with the little ones a bit before taking my camera out and they were both happy and playful, but when I pulled the cam out, Eva froze and stared at me just like this for about one full minute! Isn’t she adorable?

Once Julie mentioned those matching sweaters and hats I knew they were going to be insanely cute. As they bundled the kids up, I snapped this series of David. I laugh out loud every time I look at it!

xx

They were so easy to work with, too! They didn’t fuss about anything and it was as though they were meant to be in front of the camera because they had what seemed to be an unlimited bank of cute faces.

I know what you’re thinking, “wow these chillins couldn’t be any cuter!” Think again! Here are a few other shots from our shoot.

Northampton Wedding :: Second shooting for Rachel Hadiashar

This year I was lucky enough to shoot with wedding photography veteran Rachel Hadiashar of mergeweddings.com.  I had followed her photography for quite some time and am a huge fan of her work.  I’ll have to say, I was so nervous to shoot with her but the second I met her at this wedding, my nerves eased because she was so freakin’ cool!  She is extremely fun to work with, smart, inspiring and I learned so much in those nine hours!  She gave me some great industry tips and the wedding I got to shoot with her could not have been prettier.  Here are just a few of the photos that I shot at this wedding:

I’d like to thank Rachel for giving me the opportunity to work with her!  What a great experience it was.

I love to know how you think my photography is progressing!  Your comments keep me getting better and better.  Thank you all for looking!

Three photographers, four dogs!

This weekend I had the opportunity to meet, shoot, and be shot by two lovely ladies and their dogs. I technically met them online, on Twitter! They are Meredith of &Unlimited Photography and Stacey of Cold Nose Photo.

My brother sent me a link to some of Meredith’s photographs a few months ago because she is a pet photographer and gets great shots of dogs and their owners. Who doesn’t want to spend all day looking at photos of cute dogs? I loved her style and so we started talking through tweets. I know, I know. Meredith and Stacey had already met in person and also initially met online.

It was so so so fun to hang out with other photographers. We met up at the Fells Reservation in Medford, MA. We bring Emma here quite a bit, and it was awesome for her to have some friends to play with this time!

Here is Meredith and Orvis!

I have a whole new respect for pet photographers.  It’s SO hard!  The pups are never looking where you want them to be looking and are usually distracted by whatever bird or squirrel is passing by.  Both Stacey and Meredith have some great techniques for keeping the dog’s attention that seem to work really well!  Meredith cracked me up so much because me and Emma were posing and I hear her make this sound I can only describe as a “chirp”.  It definitely kept both Emma and my attention.

When you have such beautiful women in front of you, it makes the job easy!  Here are a couple portraits of each of them.

Allison + Rowboat :: Boston Portrait Photography

I introduce you, my lovely readers, to Allison and Rowboat. That’s right, her dog’s name is “Rowboat” or “boat” for short. Allison is such a beautiful person inside and out! She is always full of laughter and entertaining me with her hilarity! It was *so* fun working with you two!

It was such a beautiful fall day in New England, all the leaves were perfect.  We started out at a football field to let the Boat run around for a while.

Allison got right on the ground, even though it down poured the night before and the leaves were all wet.  Rowboat was being so cute that she couldn’t resist playing with him!
She is so pretty!

'tis the season - Boston Holiday Family Portraits

With the holiday season fast approaching, I’ve been getting inquiries about holiday family portrait sessions. What better time to have your family portrait taken but in the middle of Boston’s gorgeous fall backdrop?! For those holiday cards that family members & friends look forward to receiving all year long, here are the details:

  • You choose the location, I come to you!
  • up to 1 hour of shooting
  • online gallery proofing of all images
  • two (2)  8 x 10 prints or four (4) 5 x 7 photographs (if you would like to purchase additional prints, contact me on pricing) *AND* eight (8) wallets
  • two (2) digital images processed by me
  • furry friends allowed and encouraged!
  • contact me at holiday@alexandraroberts.com to set up your shoot, or use my contact form.

Note on prints:  I am picky about how my prints look.  I use a 3rd party lab which I have calibrated my monitor with and created a monitor profile to match what I see on my screen to their printers. Prints are created with printers that expose light sensitive paper that is then run through a chemical process. These are real photographs, not inkjet prints.
