Cat & Brian eloped last month at Cambridge City Hall. Their appointment was at 9am, and they had to be on the road to catch the ferry to Block Island just a couple hours later. I love how they did not tell a soul until after all was said and done. We met up at their apartment where they shared a glass of champagne and breakfast bowls of granola, berries and yogurt. When we realized we’d better hit the road, Cat dumped the rest of the bottle into her hydroflask, as you do. Congratulations you two!
Jen & Rian
I love how randomly I meet some people. I met Jen & Rian because I happen to eat at and Instagram from Rian’s restaurant way too often. I got to know these two over the last few months and I still cannot believe that we haven’t been friends forever! They held a small gathering with their immediate family and a couple of close friends at the White Hart Inn last month. For an 18 person guest list, I’ve never seen QUITE a party like that. Jen & Rian, I look forward to many MANY cookouts and campfires, thank you for inviting me into your lives. <3
Carter Notch
Last weekend I had a couple of shoots reschedule at the last minute and found myself with a free weekend. With so few of these left between now and December, I thought maybe we could squeeze in one more backpacking trip. This time in the White Mountains. It dawned on me as we drove up to Pinkham Notch that although I had done plenty of hiking, I had never backpacked in New England before. The thoughts of the nice wide, clear, flat switchbacks of the West were quickly replaced with “crap, carrying a pack on New England trails is gonna suck.”. We had to do it sometime! Might as well do it now. I think if you want to get started in backpacking, do it in New England. It will make all the other places you go feel so much easier, ha! Our trails are UP UP UP and over, covered in rocks and roots.
We ended up staying at Carter Notch Hut. If you don’t know about the AMC Huts, you should definitely check them out. After a 3.8 mile hike in, we were greeted by JP. He is the spring season caretaker and he showed us where to refill our water and to sign up for a slot to use the kitchen to cook our meals. There is a common area with a wood stove, and that is where we spent most of our evening. When it came time to go to sleep, we headed outside to our bunkhouse just up the hill. It was freezing. Colder than if we had been in a tent! In the morning we went to cook our breakfast in the main hut and talked with other hikers about what they were planning on doing that day.
We originally went into this as a hike in hike out weekend. No crazy climbs were planned, we just wanted to get outside. Everyone was talking about how awesome Mt. Hight was, and of course that quickly became our Sunday plan. It was a gorgeous day, but the trail to Mt. Hight went through Carter Dome, which was like climbing up a frozen waterfall for maybe half a mile. That portion of the hike took us over an hour! Once we were at Carter Dome, it was smooth sailing down and up to Mt. Hight. The views of Mt. Washington were spectacular – there was no wind, which is CRAZY talk for White Mountain summits. We didn’t see another person all day.
Christine + Pete
Happy Friday everyone! I am so pumped to share my first wedding of 2016 with you today! Christine + Pete eloped at the Cambridge City Hall on Leap Day. I have to say that I was pretty excited to kick off my season off like this. I met them at their apartment in Cambridge and then we took an Uber to city hall where we waited in line to pay and then headed up to the beautiful room where they got married in less than 5 minutes! We then headed outside to the wind tunnel that was Central Square that day and headed over to Area Four for a celebratory drink. Contracts Christine + Pete! <3
Kir & Shaen
Today I introduce you to Kir & Shaen. This was a particularly special day in my eyes because Kir was the first ever PERSON I photographed. Back when we both worked for a great travel company as web developers, and I hadn’t started my business yet. I don’t think I had even thought about starting a business yet. I was just practicing on REAL LIVE HUMAN BEINGS! Any time I would want to try something new, we would go outside, or into an empty office with lighting equipment that I brought to work, and she would be my test subject. I had told her back then, when she had a love interest in her life that I definitely wanted to photograph them. And, she has met her match in Shaen. He’s just as outgoing and fun as she is. It’s so wonderful to see the happiness between these two. So, here we are! What started out as getting together at 2 for a drink before some photos at Jamaica Pond, turned into an entire evening together. Rob ended up meeting up with us and we played Beerio Kart, before ending up at a dive by their house for karaoke. Thanks for the fun, guys! Congratulations! <3
Kate & Joe
Ah! Kate & Joe. These two are getting married up in Maine later this year. I went to HIGH SCHOOL with this girl! It is so nice to see these people I knew from way back when now as adults, not having changed one bit, find their spot in the world. I met up with these two at their home north of Boston, and they took me to some of their favorite places. I cannot wait to see you two again! Congrats <3
2015
Oh man! This post took f o r e v e r to make. It’s not short. This year was wild. I photographed 30 awesome weddings that brought me to some cool places but more importantly to really cool people. I say it often, but I never thought I’d be doing this. I never thought that I would be able to do this. It’s definitely what I always wanted in my life. I wanted to be a photographer. It’s turned into so SO much more than that. The picture-taking part of this business is such a small percentage of what we do as self-employed wedding photographers. We don’t take full days off. Our work is never “left at the office”. Sometimes we iron a groom’s shirt. I couldn’t tell you how many ties I tied this year, how many boutonnieres I pinned. I even did one of my bride’s hair.
What I love most about my job is making people happy. As long as my clients are happy, I am happy. I cannot express with words how happy all of you made me this year. The following photographs are not a “best of” or a selection of 1 photograph from each wedding. It’s a collection of photos in the format that I regularly blog, as a wedding day unfolds. I hope you enjoy it!
Becca + Dan
Becca & Dan were my final wedding of 2015! I swear I was just getting ready for my first wedding of 2015, and here we are almost into 2016. This was such a great wedding to close out my season with. I can’t remember the last time I laughed so hard during a wedding ceremony. Good thing everyone else was laughing too, or else that would have been embarrassing! 🙂 Mandy over at Hummingbird Events crushed the event planning as per usual. I love that Becca & Dan are not the frilly type. They had very simple decor and let Arlington Town Hall set the tone for the party. They had an awesome caricature artist planted in the lobby, meatball o’clock and something about stuffed chickens, ha! Congrats Becca & Dan! <3
Ashley + Joe
These two are freakin’ awesome. When they asked if I would accompany them up to Jackson, NH for their engagement session, I couldn’t not. That is my FAVORITE part of the whites. And by my favorite part, I mean, the whites are my favorite so yes I will go there. Always. We met up at the AMC Visitor Center at Pinkham Notch which is at the base of Mount Washington. We headed across the street to the Lost Pond trailhead and took the short walk to this gorgeous, quite spot. I learned so much about them that made me like them even more than I already did. We exchanged bear-encounter stories, and how much we all love being above tree line.
The owner of the AirBnb we were staying at used to work for the AMC and told me that I “MUST” take them to Square Ledge (he mentioned something about awesome views, of course…). It’s a short but steep climb and let’s just say they weren’t wearing proper footwear for that. When Ashley mountain-goated her way up the rock pile, I was like yes ok let’s be friends I love you. Larry was right, the views of Mt. Washington are amazing up there!
I cannot wait for their wedding next year! Congrats guys!
Maggy + Pete
Maggy & Pete were married last month at the Wychmere Beach Club on the cape. These two came to me from a line of couples dating back a few years now. It was super fun to see people I knew at this wedding! Maggy & Pete had an awesome party on the cape followed by a Greek ceremony the next weekend. I captured that as well and we were able to walk around their Charlestown neighborhood for portraits beforehand. That post is coming up tomorrow, but today is the big party! We were lucky that there was a storm earlier in the day, because when it came time for sunset, we were given the most awesome pink clouds. I love it when that happens! Thanks, nature. Congratulations Maggy & Pete!
