Maura & Mitch

The blog has been a bit quiet because I have been away in Portugal for the entire month of March! I had planned on doing a whole lot more work while away, but it turned out that the internet wasn’t as good as I expected and the weather was way more amazing than predicted. 🙂 I am back now with lots of great sessions to share and couples for you to meet!

I met up with Maura & Mitch the day before I left. In a snowstorm, of course. What day wasn’t there a snowstorm this winter?! But I’m not complaining, because I LOVE snow a whole lot. Even 8 feet of it. And I love people who don’t care about weather, or being cold and snowed on. These two are getting married this summer at Glen Magna Farms, totally opposite weather to this day, ha ha!

Congratulations you two!

Kathleen & John

These two awesome people were married last month at Alden Castle in Brookline. I cannot say enough good things about Kathleen & John. They’re a couple of people that I am so happy to have met. They’re hilarious and super fun to be around. You cannot help but smile/laugh when in their presence because of the energy coming from them. If they lived in Boston I’m sure we would be hanging out regularly (please move!)! Their wedding took place on a freeeeezing cold winter day in Boston, just after our first snow storm. It was crazy because it hadn’t yet snowed all winter and we all know what’s been happening since this first storm! Guys, thank you so much for inviting me into your lovefest. And, congratulations!

Katherine & Chris

Katherine & Chris. When I met up with these two at Diesel Cafe last summer, I wanted them to choose me to capture their story. I felt an instant connection with them and hoped we could be friends! They asked me if I would be up for a winter hike for their engagement photos, and duh. That’s what happened. We went for an insanely gorgeous snowshoeing jaunt at Winslow State Park in New Hampshire a few weeks ago. I keep getting lucky with snow-globe snow, and it did that the whole time! I am absolutely psyched to document their celebration at The Echo Lake Inn in Vermont later this year. Hopefully we’ll get in a few more hikes together before then! 😀 Congratulations you two!

Velda & William

Iceland is so hot right now (lololol). Everyone is visiting and for good reason. There is something about it that makes me feel so happy. Something in the air, water, lava, moss, hotdogs, whatever…That just makes me realize that all the worries, fears, fomos, etc that I have on a daily basis do not actually matter one bit. Being there gives me a hard reset.

I wanted to give Velda & William more than beautiful landscape photographs with a teeny tiny “them” in the middle of each image. I wanted to give them a session just like any normal session with me, but it happened to take place in this insane place. I wanted to make it more about them than about the scenery.

When I met Velda & William in the pitch blackness of a normal 9am Monday morning in Grundarfjörður, (a small town on the Snæfellsnes peninsula) we sat down with a map to plan our route. Will kept saying “No expectations. We have no expectations, let’s just go”. Keep in mind it goes from overcast to full on gale wind blizzard without notice. The sun wasn’t even close to making an appearance yet. We left their hotel and set off to Kirkjufell, the famous mountain in town. It was blizzarding. We then drove down to Búðir (the long way, because the normal road that connects was closed due to weather) where the little black church is located. We ran into some Australian surfers in the parking lot who had just returned back from the waves. We scooted off the peninsula and headed to Þingvellir National Park when it started snow-globe snowing. It was an absolutely beautiful way to see Iceland. We then drove back to Reykjavik, had dinner together and planned our early morning departure to South Iceland. The next day we drove for 14 hours. From Reykjavik, to Jökulsárlón (where the sun actually came out for 1 minute) and back. We stopped everywhere. We got stuck, we got blown over, through hail, snow, wind, rain we laughed our asses off the entire time.

When we started the 5 hours drive back to Reykjavik, I was sad to be leaving them. They had been following me on the road through all this craziness and it was a comfort knowing they were back there. We had a wave/high beam flash as we drove through Vik, where we left them to continue their journey in the South. Abby and I continued back to Reykjavik catch our flight home the next day.

I am thankful every single day that this is the job that I get to do. For the last couple of years of my business, the people who have found their way to my work have been 1000% my people. I know my style and approach is not for everyone, but for the few that find me, it seems to be exactly what they’re looking for, and they have been the exact people that I want to work with. I could not be more thankful for that.

Thanks Will & Vel. We had a blast, I hope you enjoy the photos! xoxo

Velda & William

If you follow me on Instagram or Facebook, you know that I was in Iceland this last week photographing an awesome couple for their wedding. I’ve been asked over and over “why?” Why did they do this? Why did they want this? Why Iceland? Even while we were making these pictures, we ran into people occasionally and they would run up to us and ask. After all, Iceland has nothing to do with Velda & William’s relationship, they’d never been there before. I don’t know why that question even needs to be asked. There is no answer, except why not?

I didn’t know them at all, so when we met up at sunrise in Grundarfjörður, I started in with my standard “go stand over there” while I watched, clicked, tried to learn something, anything, about their relationship. The following 20+ hours on the road in a hybrid of hail/sleet/snow/rain along with gale force winds, with their car getting stuck in 4″ of ice, our cars literally bouncing off each other in an icy parking lot, running for our lives from 20′ crashing waves, all while in the middle of nowhere, hours from help, were the most fun & exciting 20+ hours on the road I’ve had in a while. I learned that Velda & William are fearless. So, it makes sense to me that they would choose Iceland, a place that always feels like it’s trying to kill me, to have their wedding photographs taken. It fits their relationship perfectly.

Thanks to my friend Abby (photo above taken by her) who tagged along and was an amazing assistant, car-digger-outer-helper, pony joke maker, and all around fun time. I have only barely begun to look through the images I made with Velda & William over the two days we were on the road together, but here are just a few for now. <3 thingvellir wedding photographerIceland plane crash wedding photographerGrundarfjörður wedding photographer Kirkjufellblack sand beach vik iceland wedding

Maggy & Pete

Happy 2015 my faithful viewers! I hope that everyone had a great holiday season and is enjoying this snowless weather *grumble*. I am pretty upset that it’s negative a million out and there is no snow to show for it. Soon weather fairies, please?! I am not upset, however, about all of my awesome couples who are choosing to have their engagement session in the winter! It’s the best. I love the way sunset looks in the winter, and how bundled we all get. I met up with Maggy & Pete around Christmastime in their neighborhood for some photos. Maggy loves the decor around Charlestown around the holidays (who doesn’t!), and Pete had in mind one particular house that always has the same wreaths and garlands up. I had such a fun time getting to know them a bit better. They took me on a replay of the day Pete proposed, and kept stopping to say “and this is where I almost proposed but didn’t!” and “this is where I started crying” etc…they’re too cute! They’ve known each other forever…but didn’t start dating until recent years. I love that. Maggy & Pete are getting married at the Wychmere Beach Club this fall and I couldn’t be happier for the both of them! Congratulations you two!

Grace & Jeremy

Grace & Jeremy were married last month at the Barn at Hardy Farm in Fryeburg, Maine. When I arrived to meet them, there was the most perfect blanket of snow on the farm. You cannot plan it more perfect than that! Grace & Jeremy – you are are such awesome, go-with-the-flow types. I had such an awesome time with you two! Special thank you to Jay, the DJ, and Paula from A Family Affair of Maine for being such great people to work with.

Congratulations you two!

Meredith & Nick

Meredith & Nick were married this fall at Grey Havens Inn in Georgetown, Maine. People often ask me where my favorite place to shoot a wedding is. I know it sounds wicked cheesey but I don’t have favorite places. For me it’s always about the people. I don’t know what it is about people who decide to get married at little inns in middleofnowhere Maine. Having grown up in Coastal Maine, I feel so comfortable there and with those people. Everyone felt like a family member at this wedding, and everyone made me feel like I was one of their family members. I may have even been forced to remove my cameras at the end of the night and dance to “I Wanna Dance with Somebody” with a guy who had the most perfect “casual Maine chic” outfit on (if you’re wondering, it was obviously khakis, bean boots, red/green plaid, navy sport coat). I will never forget this wedding. And not for the most perfect fall location, the beautiful ever-changing light, the gorgeous florals or thoughtful details. It’s all about Meredith & Nick. Guys. Thank you for including me in your wedding. xoxo

Mathilda & Pete

Mathilda & Pete are getting married next spring at the Old South Meeting House downtown. I am super pumped to photograph their ceremony in such a historic place! We met up a few weeks ago at !SUNRISE! down on the waterfront by the ICA and Fort Point. I love photographing in that part of Boston but I love it even more at sunrise. It’s such a busy place most of the time and when Mathilda & Pete took me up on the idea to meet at sunrise I couldn’t have been more excited. The streets were empty and the sky was all watercolor-y and changing hues with every passing second! Despite not being a “morning person” I think Mathilda crushed it with her contagiously positive attitude and Pete definitely helped by keeping her laughing the entire time. Congratulations you two!

Lauren & Tyler

Lauren & Tyler were married last month at the Pierce House in Lincoln, MA. There was so much to love about this wedding. The gorgeous fall leaves, all of the fun details that Lauren & Tyler put together, KO PIES, the WHOOPIE WAGON, the curtain of twinkle lights inside the tent, grandma in a fuchsia dress! The Tangled Web totally killed it with the florals. I mean, c’mon. Not to mention the love that Lauren & Tyler have for each other and how comfortable they were the entire day. They were just so excited to be married and to see all of their friends and family in one place. That’s what this is all about, after all. Guys, thank you so much for having me – it was an absolute joy to capture your day! <3 Congratulations! John H.
