Heather & Andy - a backyard barbecue wedding in Maine

Ok everyone. This couple. This wedding. I couldn’t stop laughing my butt off while culling/editing/creating blog images. You might remember Heather & Andy from their engagement session last fall, which took place in their back yard in Maine. I know a lot of people who talk about throwing “backyard bbq” weddings, but I’ve never actually been to/seen/photographed one. This was literally *in their back yard*. They literally had a pit bbq restaurant cater it, and Andy’s tractor was totally filled with canned beer and ice – come ON! They didn’t even have to leave their two sweet pups, Primrose and Winnie. Don’t miss the Marden’s reference (only Mainer’s know!), or Heather’s wine glass which is a mason jar fused to a candlestick! Heather is one crafty woman, too. I knew there would be a lot of DIY elements because she owns her own soap-making company, appropriately named after their barn that Andy built from scratch, seen in these photos. I love you two, congratulations!

Kelli-Beth & Angela are getting married!

I love these two. L O V E them. Kelli-Beth and Angela are getting married next year at Tupper Manor on the North Shore. They have a sweet lab named Wally after the Red Sox mascot and we met up in their neighborhood so that we could include him in some photographs. What a sweetie! I love the black dot on his tongue. What I love most about this couple is they are always laughing and making jokes at each other. They had me (and my assistant Zach!) laughing our butts off! Because they are huge megga Red Sox fans and go to 20+ games a year, we couldn’t miss Fenway Park.

Shelby & Justin married in York, Maine - Union Bluff Meeting House

Shelby and Justin were married a couple weeks ago at a private residence in York, Maine followed by a reception at the Union Bluff Meeting House right on the water. They were originally going to have a destination wedding in Mexico (somewhere they frequent on vacation) and at short notice they had to switch the location to their hometown. They pretty much re-planned their wedding in only 12 weeks! Thank you so much to my friend and fellow photog, Lara Kimmerer for second shooting with me!

Shelby surprised Justin with this sick groom’s cake! Even the “board” the fist is on is edible!

New Sample Albums

Today I received a new sample album from the album company of my dreams! I am so excited to now offer these to my clients, because I think you’re going to love them as much as I do! I had been struggling to find an album company that I felt good to work with, and would be able to represent my philosophies and morals as a business owner really well. In walks Wild Magnolia Design. Wild Magnolia Design is a small company (first check mark) who prides themselves on being “green” and not in a trendy way like a lot of companies (check mark #2). All albums are made 100% from scratch, meaning they create the gorgeous covers, the endpapers (which are INSANE!), all printing is done in-house, and the mounting is done by hand. Your album is completely unique from anyone else’s (check mark #3).

All albums come in a protective slipcover made from burlap and cotton.

Cover options are organic hemp (the fastest growing, one of the most durable, renewable materials on earth. *which is illegal to grow in the US, just sayin), beautiful raw dupioni silks, and what you’ll see the these images is “Peace Silk” which comes from cocoons of caterpillars who have already turned into moths and flown away.

The endpapers. There are 6 endpaper options and I think this “scrimshaw” (made out of recycled, tree-free materials) paper is so beautiful!

The paper. Spreads are printed on Somerset Velvet paper that is super-thick and has a watercolor texture which looks and feels so pretty. It’s made out of 100% cotton, too making it a completely tree-free paper.

Obsessed.

Caroline & Cornelius have wed.

I had the absolute pleasure of photographing Caroline & Cornelius’s wedding last weekend at a private home up in Gloucester, Ma. I wish I had words to explain how incredible these two people, their friends, and family are. You just had to be there. A couple points that you will find interesting: The men’s boutineers are custom made dolphin pins to match the trim on the family house. They have hosted 4 family weddings here, and each time they repaint a little boat called the “S.S. Matrimony” with the couple’s name (too much!). Cornelius went for a ceremonial dip in the ocean before the wedding, jumping from the same rock that his grandfather jumped from every morning and every evening, no matter the weather. Caroline found her beautiful dress at a non-profit that sells samples and then donates the profits to charity. Love. Them.

Cornelius’ expression as he sees Caroline for the first time is killing me here.

It had been raining non-stop here for 2 weeks and the morning of the wedding into the afternoon there was gorgeous sunlight and warmth. However! After the ceremony the fog started to roll in (which I think is equally as beautiful)!

Sabine & Jon

Sabine and Jon went to high school together, but they didn’t know each other at all. Sabine was an exchange student from Germany at the time and it wasn’t until their high school reunion that they met and fell in love. How InsaneCute is that?! They are planning their Easthampton wedding this August from Germany where they both live now. I was able to finally meet them in person a couple of weeks ago when they were here on a wedding-planning trip! I loved hearing about German wedding customs from Sabine. She told me that her friends thought it was weird that they were meeting their photographer before the day of the wedding, and for pictures nonetheless!? Normally a photographer shows up for 20 minutes, takes a few formal shots and leaves! Since these two aren’t from Boston, I was giving them a city tour along with shooting their engagement session, which was fun and challenging at the same time. I can’t wait to see you two in August!

Wedding season is about to get insanely awesome up in this house. While I am prepping myself for non-stop weddings until mid-November (minus my own wedding!) I wanted to share this with you from a recent family sesh. This little one is cracking me up so hard right now! I’ll be sharing lots of engagement sessions and weddings very soon!

Sarah & Jon are engaged!

It is so beautiful in Boston today! I have been doing so many engagement shoots lately and I have been having so much fun reconnecting with couples who I first met last winter. Sarah and Jon live in Virginia and are planning their New Hampshire wedding up at the Rivermill at Dover Landing. They were up from D.C. a few weeks ago to do some wedding planning and we met up in New Hampshire for their engagement shoot. I loved watching these two interact, they are so silly with eachother and Jon makes Sarah laugh. A LOT! Silliness is an important ingredient for any successful relationship. 🙂 Congratulations to you two!
